Ted Cruz claims Democrats have shifted their focus from everyday workers to celebrities
Senator Ted Cruz argued that the Democratic Party has shifted its focus from supporting blue-collar workers to catering to Hollywood celebrities and billionaires. He noted this change in light of a recent fundraising event for President Joe Biden in Los Angeles, which featured celebrities such as George Clooney and Julia Roberts, as well as former President Barack Obama. In contrast, former President Donald Trump visited a church in Detroit, Michigan. Cruz criticized the Democratic Party on Fox News, claiming that it has abandoned blue-collar workers such as steelworkers, taxi drivers, and waitstaff by imposing regulations that adversely affect their industries and livelihoods.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) argued that the Democratic Party has shifted its supporting base, which has gone from supporting blue-collar workers to Hollywood celebrities and billionaires.
The senator’s comments come after President Joe Biden conducted a fundraiser in Los Angeles with actors George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and former President Barack Obama, while former President Donald Trump made a visit to a church in Detroit, Michigan, on Saturday. Cruz contrasted how these two moves by Trump and Biden represent the shift to whom the Democratic Party caters.
“If you’re actually talking about a steelworker, if you’re talking about taxicab drivers, if you’re talking about a waiter or a waitress, the Democrat Party long ago abandoned those workers,” Cruz said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “And in fact, look, a steelworker, they’re hammering steel mills with environmental regulations, making it harder and harder to stay in business; truck drivers, they’re hammering them with regulations, making it harder and harder to survive.”
Cruz also cited the recent minimum wage hike in California, which has seen multiple restaurant chains close down locations in the state. He argued that the leadership of “King Gavin,” referring to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), has only led to workers losing their jobs. He added that Trump’s approach to supporting workers is “far better.”
Part of Trump’s strategy to win the blue-collar vote is to end taxes on tip wages, which he promised to do at a Las Vegas rally should he return to the White House. Cruz said that this “single policy alone” could win the former president the state of Nevada, adding that he is working on drafting the legislation this week.

Cruz also discussed a recent meeting he and several other Republicans conducted with Trump on Thursday, nothing that Trump is “feeling optimistic.” He described the overall sentiment during the meeting as “unity,” saying that everyone acknowledged the importance of winning the upcoming election to “turn the country around.”
Trump’s visit to Detroit over the weekend received praise from local pastor Lorenzo Sewell, who noted that neither Obama nor Biden visited “the hood” in their campaigns and thanked Trump for making his visit.
