“They think you are a racist piece of garbage,” said Cruz on his podcast The Verdict.

Cruz, who is leading in his reelection race, was sparked by Biden’s comments on Tuesday that Trump supporters are “garbage,” and he wrapped in other recent smears on Republicans, independents, and moderate Democrats who are supporting Trump in his race with Harris.

“It’s one thing to try to demonize Donald Trump. It’s another thing in a much stupider thing, to try to demonize America, to try to demonize half the voters in America,” Cruz said on the podcast he records with co-host Ben Ferguson.

“Now, they believe it. They believe that we’re garbage. They believe we’re deplorables. But they try to suppress that instinct, because they recognize that some of their voters, some of the voters they’re trying to presumably earn their votes. And you know, it’s typically a bad strategy in campaigning to say, ‘Hey, you piece of garbage, vote for me.’”

Biden roiled the campaign by injecting himself with the nasty comment when talking about a comment made by a crude comic early in Trump’s hourslong rally Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

Speaking on a Zoom call with a liberal nonprofit group, he said, “Donald Trump has no character. He doesn’t give a damn about the Latino community … just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage? … The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.”

The comment detracted from a Harris event held at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C, to call for unity in America.

Cruz cited Hillary Rodham Clinton and former President Barack Obama, who, during their presidential campaigns, also smeared voters who didn’t support them.

“You remember Barack Obama saying that Americans are bitter and angry and clinging to their God and their guns. I mean, this is what they think. It’s what Obama thinks, it’s what Hillary thinks. It’s what Joe Biden thinks. It’s definitely what Kamala thinks,” Cruz said. “They look down on you, and if you believe, you know if, if you’re tired of paying higher prices at the grocery store, more for your every bill, if you’re tired of paying more for gasoline, if you actually don’t want Venezuelan gang members moving next door to your house and threatening your kids. You know what they think? They think you are a racist piece of garbage and you’re deplorable. I mean, the arrogance, and they live in their gilded cages.”

“It really is a viciousness,” he added.
