Teenagers found guilty of hacking GTA developer and Uber.

Teenagers Convicted for Hacking and Leaking Grand Theft Auto⁤ Footage

Two teenagers in the ⁤United Kingdom have been convicted ‍for their involvement⁣ in a‌ notorious hacker ⁤group that leaked preliminary footage of the highly anticipated ‌Grand Theft Auto game and breached ⁤Uber’s ⁣user data.

Arion Kurtaj, 18, and an unidentified 17-year-old were found guilty of multiple ⁢computer-related crimes, including serious computer misuse, ⁣blackmail, and fraud against⁣ chip developer ⁣Nvidia, according to Bloomberg.

Hacking Spree and Notorious Hacker Group

Kurtaj was ⁤charged with hacking into Uber, Rockstar Games (the developer of GTA), and financial technology firm Revolut. The 17-year-old was accused⁢ of hacking, fraud, and blackmail against Nvidia.

Both ⁣individuals are ‌believed to be members of the infamous hacker group known as Lapsus$. Over the past two years, this group has been responsible⁣ for numerous cyber attacks, such as bringing down⁤ the Ministry of Health of Brazil website, stealing the credentials of over 70,000 Nvidia employees, and ⁤leaking the source code of Samsung smartphones.

Rockstar Games and Uber Targeted

In September 2022, Rockstar Games confirmed that⁣ it had fallen victim to‌ a cyber ⁣attack⁢ when several clips from the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 were leaked online. The company swiftly responded by filing copyright claims against the videos to have them removed. However, the ⁢videos spread rapidly across various platforms, attracting significant media ‌attention.

During the same month, Uber also reported‍ a major security breach. A teenager managed ‌to gain unauthorized access‍ to 57 million rider and driver records from Uber’s internal database.

These convictions serve as ‌a reminder of ⁢the ongoing battle⁢ against cybercrime and⁣ the importance of robust security measures to protect ⁣sensitive data.
