Tensions rise in U.K.’s Conservative Party against mandates, Prime Minister Johnson

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing opposition from lawmakers within his own Conservative Party.
On Tuesday, Johnson proposed legislation to require vaccine passports, reimplementation of face masks, and mandating COVID vaccines for workers. The laws all passed, but only with support from the opposition Labour Party joining in.
In what was the largest rebellion since becoming prime minister in 2019, 60-100 Members of Parliament (MPs) voted against the various party proposals.
From 15 December in England, you will need to show your NHS COVID Pass to enter places where large crowds gather, like nightclubs or large sporting events.

“I respect the feelings and I respect the anxieties that colleagues have about restrictions on their liberty, and the liberty of people, but I believe that the approach that we’re taking is balanced and proportionate and right for this country,” said Johnson.
The rebellion shows a massive break within the ruling Conservative Party and exhaustion over COVID measures in the U.K.
