Terrorist plot targeting Taylor Swift concert snuffed out by police in Austria

A terrorism plan targeting a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna, Austria, has been foiled by authorities in the region after two men were arrested in connection with the plot.

One of the men arrested was a 19 year old who allegedly pledged his allegiance to ISIS, and both had been radicalized through the internet, according to NBC News.

They reportedly had detailed plans on how to carry out an attack. A bomb squad is said to have found chemical substances when authorities arrested the 19-year-old. Austria’s Cobra unit, which is similar to the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team, assisted with the arrests.

Organizers originally said the concerts, scheduled for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, would go on with increased security measures, but they were later canceled following the arrests.

“With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety,” organizers said. “All tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days.”

Swift recently stirred controversy when she posted an image on Instagram that appeared to show Vice President Kamala Harris’s silhouette in the background. It was later shown to be one of her backup dancers.
