Terry Jeffrey: What Will It Take to Keep America Safe and Free?

Last week, Daryus Clarke, a smoke shop clerk in Queens, was shot dead by three individuals who entered the store. In the same week, multiple murders occurred in various cities across America, including one in which a former student killed three children and three staff members at a Tennessee school. These tragedies rightfully captured national attention, leading President Joe Biden to call for more gun control measures. However, these murders are symptoms of a moral problem in America, not a gun problem, and we need to address this problem head-on to make America safe and free once again.

New York City alone had eight murders in just seven days from March 20-26, and 84 people have been murdered in the city so far this year. Similarly, Washington, D.C., Detroit, Los Angeles, and Chicago also experienced an increase in homicides in the last year, and yet, these incidents rarely make national news. In reality, we need to treat all crimes equally regardless of where they occur, and demand for a permanent solution to this problem.

Many politicians emphasize the need for more gun control measures as a way to stop these violent crimes. However, the real issue is of morality, not guns. The problem is that some people are using guns to take away another person’s right to life. Such crimes will only decrease when our society becomes more religious and moral. As President John Adams once said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

The obvious solution to reduce crime significantly is to permanently imprison those found guilty of committing serious crimes. Additionally, we need to educate our children about morality and religious values so that they can create a safer community for everyone. It is only when Americans hold themselves accountable for their actions and moral values that we can truly be safe and free as a nation.
