Tesla approved for drive-in EV charging station in LA.
Tesla’s Supercharger Diner: Where Charging Meets Entertainment
Tesla’s first Supercharger diner is not just a dream anymore. It’s becoming a reality!
The company recently received permit approval from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety for its innovative drive-in movie and diner Supercharger station in Los Angeles, as reported by Teslarati.
Imagine this: a Supercharger station with a twist. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been teasing the idea of combining a drive-in movie theater and a diner into one of their Supercharger stations. This unique concept would feature dozens of charging stalls, two screens showing movie clips, and a rooftop eatery with breathtaking views.
The goal is to provide drivers with an engaging experience while they wait for their electric vehicles to charge.
In January 2018, Elon Musk shared his vision of an “old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant.” Now, the architectural plans for this ambitious project are taking shape.
Initially, the eatery was planned for multiple lots in Santa Monica. However, the project has now found its home at 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard, according to Teslarati.
The existing building, formerly a Shakey’s Pizza, will be demolished to make way for Tesla’s Supercharger diner. The new establishment will feature a 3,800-square-foot enclosed lower level and a 5,500-square-foot outdoor seating and enclosed kitchen area above, as reported by Restaurant Business.
Did you know? Tesla Supercharger stations can charge a vehicle to a 200-mile capacity in just 15 minutes.
Future Innovation
During Tesla’s Investor Day in March, Rebecca Tinucci, the company’s senior director for charging infrastructure, shared exciting details about their plans. One of the highlights was the vision for the future diner and drive-in theater charging site, which was briefly showcased on screen.
“We have understood since Day One that a great charging experience is the linchpin to electric vehicle adoption,” said Ms. Tinucci during the Investor Day event.
Tesla takes pride in offering the most convenient charging experience available, with 80,000 charging points, including 40,000 Superchargers. Ms. Tinucci emphasized that Tesla’s charging infrastructure installation process is efficient and cost-effective, with costs significantly lower than industry averages.
“Our costs are often 20 percent, if not 70 percent, lower than alternatives,” Ms. Tinucci revealed.
Looking ahead, Tesla aims to make all their charging stations compatible with non-Tesla EV models, power the stations with renewable energy, and expand their charging infrastructure. They are even working on providing real-time information about charger availability and specifications to minimize wait times and maximize convenience for EV drivers.
With Tesla’s commitment to innovation, the future of electric vehicle charging looks brighter than ever.
