Texas Border Democrat switches to GOP in a bold move, fed up with their party.
A Texas Democrat Official Switches Parties, Citing Border Crisis
A Texas Democrat official has learned a valuable lesson about her party’s priorities and has made the decision to switch parties. Kleberg County attorney Kira Talip Sanchez recently announced her departure from the Democratic Party and her official switch to the Republican Party. This significant move was made public at the Hispanic Republicans of Texas PAC.
Kleberg County, located in South Texas along the Gulf of Mexico, is just over two hours away from the Mexican border. As a result, the county is directly impacted by the ongoing border crisis. While historically leaning blue, the county has shown support for Republican presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump.
Sanchez explained that her decision to switch parties was driven by the Democrats’ failure to address the border crisis effectively. As County Attorney, she has worked closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of Kleberg County’s citizens. However, she believes that the GOP’s commitment to law and order, protecting safety, and supporting law enforcement aligns better with her values and the values of the county’s residents.
Sanchez expressed her enthusiasm for working with her new colleagues to maintain the safety of South Texas, emphasizing the importance of addressing border issues.
Recognizing the Shift in the Democratic Party
Cassy Garcia, President of the Hispanic Republicans of Texas, welcomed Sanchez to the party and acknowledged the changing landscape of the Democratic Party. Garcia emphasized that the party has become radical, elitist, and out of touch with their values. The Democratic Party of today no longer represents the traditional American ideals it once did.
Border Policies and the Democratic Party
One of the most significant policy differences that highlight the divergence between the parties is their approach to border policies. The Democratic Party advocates for almost completely open borders, disregarding long-standing immigration laws. They also oppose thorough screening of immigrants to assess their potential contributions to society. This lack of distinction between worthy applicants and criminals, drug dealers, and foreign saboteurs poses a threat to the safety of American neighborhoods.
A Growing Trend of Party Switching
Sanchez is not alone in her decision to switch parties. In Texas alone, five elected Democrats have made the transition to the GOP. This trend extends beyond Texas, with Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, and West Virginia also witnessing elected Democratic officials joining the Republican Party.
Politico reported that since 1994, 173 state lawmakers have switched parties, with the majority crossing from the Democratic aisle to the GOP. This shift reflects a broader pattern of Democrats realizing that their party no longer aligns with their values.
Notable Party Switchers
Several notable Democrats have recently switched parties. In Louisiana, state Rep. Francis Thompson’s switch to the Republican Party gave the state GOP a supermajority in the state House for the first time in history. North Carolina Rep. Tricia Cotham also joined the Republican Party, resulting in a supermajority in both houses of the General Assembly. Georgia state Rep. Mesha Mainor made the switch to better serve her constituents and stay true to her personal convictions.
The Democratic Party’s Shift
Former President Ronald Reagan’s observation that the Democrats have turned their backs on America is more relevant than ever. Sanchez’s decision to switch parties is a testament to the fact that she did not leave the Democratic Party; the party left her.
