After 63 years since its establishment in 1961, the Texas Rangers have finally achieved their dream of becoming World Series champions.
The Rangers emerged victorious with a 5-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix, securing their first-ever championship.
The Rangers clinched the series in five games, but their path to victory was far from easy.
The game remained scoreless for six innings, with Arizona’s pitcher Zac Gallen throwing a no-hitter until the sixth inning.
However, in the seventh inning, Texas managed to break through Gallen’s defense and scored the first run of the game.
In the top of the ninth inning, with a 1-0 lead, the Rangers secured additional runs, including a memorable two-run home run by Marcus Semien, extending their lead to 5-0.
“Man, this is the biggest moment,” an emotional Semien exclaimed to Fox Sports when asked about his home run. “Just felt so good. Just looked over at the bench (and) screamed. Just an unbelievable feeling. I know I keep saying that word, but just to run the bases knowing that we are that much closer felt great.”
The Rangers displayed an unbeatable performance on the road throughout the postseason, winning all 11 away games.
Rangers shortstop Corey Seager stood out as the standout player of the MLB playoffs, earning the title of World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP) and becoming only the fourth player to win two World Series MVP awards.
“I’m just happy to be a part of this team,” Seager expressed while accepting his award. “The resilience of this group, just the fight, the fight is what it is.”
With the World Series title, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy joined an elite group of managers who have won at least four championships.
“I was sitting on a recliner there in Nashville, just enjoying myself, when he called me,” Bochy shared when asked about his return to the game after Rangers General Manager Chris Young contacted him. “I’m so honored by these guys. They inspire me with how resilient they’ve been, but to get this call and be part of this, I know how blessed I am. I can’t thank these guys enough.”
The Rangers had previously appeared in two World Series, experiencing consecutive losses in 2010 and 2011.
With this victory, only five teams in the MLB have yet to win a World Series, including the Colorado Rockies, Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays, and the San Diego Padres.
