Texas sued over abortion laws by five women

FTwo ive women filed a suit against TexasThe state prevented them getting an abortion despite the life-threatening circumstances. pregnanciesIn what has been referred to as the first case brought by women who have not had abortions denied since the Supreme Court was overturned Roe V. Wade.

These women claim that abortion was denied to them despite the possibility of bleeding or a life-threatening infection during their pregnancy. They are asking the court for clarification on what exemptions the state allows under its abortion laws.

“The lawsuit aims to hold the state of Texas accountable for the consequences of multiple harmful abortion bans on pregnant people facing obstetric complications,” tweeted The Center for Reproductive Rights represents the women involved in this case.

Texas prohibits all forms of abortion during pregnancy. But exceptions may be granted if the mother is willing to have an abortion. “has a life-threatening physical condition aggravated, caused by, or arising from a pregnancy that places the female at risk of death or poses a serious risk of substantial impairment of a major bodily function,” according to The law of the state.

Amanda Zurawski is one of the plaintiffs in this lawsuit. She had her water cut when she was 17-weeks pregnant, but doctors refused to induce labor due to Texas’s abortion laws. Zurawski developed sepsis after receiving the water break.
