Libs Of TikTok’ claims Facebook suspended their account, citing increased censorship
Libs of TikTok Facebook Page Suspended, Restored After Appeal
Chaya Raichik, the owner of the popular Libs of TikTok accounts on social media, faced a setback when her Facebook page was suspended on Saturday. The suspension came with a message from Facebook stating that the page had violated their Community Standards.
Raichik took to Twitter to express her frustration, stating that the censorship was escalating as the 2024 elections approached. She urged her followers to “buckle up” for what lies ahead.

The Daily Beast reported that Raichik successfully appealed the suspension and had her account restored. However, on Sunday morning, the Facebook page displayed a message stating that the content was not available at the moment.
In December 2022, journalist Bari Weiss revealed that Libs of TikTok had been placed on a “Trends Blacklist” by Twitter. The account had a special note attached to it, stating that any action taken on the account required consultation with SIP-PES.
Weiss further explained that Raichik had faced multiple suspensions throughout 2022, with each suspension lasting up to a week. Twitter cited “hateful conduct” as the reason for the suspensions, despite Raichik’s claims that she had not violated any of the platform’s rules.

Interestingly, insiders at Twitter admitted that they were aware that Libs of TikTok had not violated any rules, but they still wanted the account suspended.
In October 2022, Libs of TikTok joined the social media platform Tribel, only to be thrown off just 20 minutes later. Raichik had posted messages such as “Men cannot get pregnant” and “men cannot become women and women cannot become men.” Tribel Support celebrated the ban, claiming that their algorithms had successfully identified and suppressed “bigotry.”

Why is it important for social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter to be transparent in their content moderation practices and apply their policies consistently and impartially
SIP-PES, or the Safety, Intcomms Protocols Public Engagement Support, is an internal team within Twitter responsible for handling sensitive and high-profile accounts. The note suggested that the Libs of TikTok account was considered significant enough to warrant extra caution and scrutiny.
Raichik’s Facebook page suspension is not the first instance of social media platforms targeting accounts like Libs of TikTok. The conservative-leaning account is known for sharing videos that often mock and criticize liberal viewpoints and trends on TikTok. It has gained a significant following, with over a million followers on TikTok and hundreds of thousands on other platforms.
The suspension of the Facebook page raised concerns about the growing trend of online censorship and the stifling of conservative voices. Many argue that social media platforms have a biased approach towards content moderation, and conservative voices are disproportionately targeted and silenced.
In recent years, there has been increased scrutiny of tech giants like Facebook and Twitter for their handling of political content. The platforms claim to have community guidelines and standards that dictate what content is acceptable and what violates their policies. However, the enforcement of these guidelines has been a subject of controversy and criticism. Critics argue that there is a lack of transparency and consistency in the application of these policies, leading to selective censorship.
The suspension of Libs of TikTok’s Facebook page is seen by many as an example of this selective censorship. Supporters of the account see it as a violation of free speech and an attempt to suppress conservative viewpoints. They argue that platforms like Facebook and Twitter should be neutral platforms that uphold free expression rather than imposing their own ideological biases.
Raichik’s successful appeal and restoration of her Facebook page offer a glimmer of hope for those concerned about online censorship. However, the intermittent unavailability of the page raises questions about the stability and reliability of social media platforms in ensuring free expression and open dialogue.
The case of Libs of TikTok serves as a reminder of the ongoing debate surrounding freedom of expression in the digital age. As social media platforms continue to play a significant role in shaping public discourse, the question of how to strike a balance between content moderation and preserving freedom of speech remains unresolved.
It is essential for platforms to be transparent in their content moderation practices and ensure that they apply their policies consistently and impartially. Moreover, there needs to be a broader conversation about the power and responsibility of tech giants in shaping public opinion and discourse.
As the 2024 elections approach, the importance of a robust and fair online environment becomes even more critical. The suspension and subsequent restoration of Libs of TikTok’s Facebook page serve as a reminder that the fight for free expression online is far from over.
