Evil’s Face
I am a Jew: The Words of Martyrs and Heroes
For three millennia, the Jewish people have proudly declared, “I am a Jew.”
From the brave men, women, and children of Masada to the followers of Bar Kokhba, these words have echoed through history.
They were the defiant cries of Jews in Granada, the Rhineland, Khmelnytsky, Kishinev, Hebron, Auschwitz, Treblinka, and the last words of Daniel Pearl.
And they are my words too, the words of my parents, my wife, and my children.
But over the weekend, my people, the Jewish people, were attacked. Murdered. Mutilated. Our women raped. Our children kidnapped.
This is not a new story. Jew-hatred has plagued us for centuries, fueled by evil and a deep-rooted desire to destroy us.
The Promise of the State of Israel
But now, we have the State of Israel. A promise that never again will we stand by and be murdered. Never again will we leave our Biblical homeland. Never again will we surrender.
We will be strong and courageous, just as Joshua commanded thousands of years ago.
Israel is a miracle, an indispensable presence that gives us strength.
Thank God for the State of Israel.
The Face of Absolute Evil
There are those who deny that anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism. But tell that to the dead women and children in Sderot. Tell that to Hamas, whose charter echoes the words of the Nazis.
The chain of Jew-hatred is unbroken, from Pharaoh to Haman, from Hitler to Hamas.
And for two millennia, the Jew-haters were ascendant. But no longer.
Look Evil in the Face
Today, I will show you the face of evil. Do not turn away.
Americans love justice. Americans love good. We will not shy away from confronting evil.

Hate evil. And fight it.
Americans have always stood for justice and good. We will not waver in the face of evil.
The Meaning of “I am a Jew”
When I say, “I am a Jew,” it carries deep significance.
It means I am part of a people who brought the world messages of freedom, justice, and hope.
We are the root of Judeo-Christian values, preserving traditions that stretch back thousands of years.
We are the people of the Ten Commandments, the Red Sea, the Holy Temple, and the One God of Abraham.
We will not be victimized again.

In what ways can the words “I am a Jew” serve as a source of strength and resilience in the face of hatred and tragedy?
/p>
Yesterday, the world witnessed a horrific act of evil as a synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, became the target of a vicious attack. Eleven innocent lives were taken, and our hearts are filled with sorrow for the families and friends who have lost their loved ones.
But amidst this darkness, we must find strength in our identity as Jews. We must unite as a community and vow to stand tall in the face of hatred.
The words “I am a Jew” hold power. They represent resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to our heritage. Throughout history, our ancestors have uttered these words in moments of great peril, refusing to be silenced or erased.
Today, we continue this legacy. We refuse to cower in fear or allow the actions of a deranged individual to define who we are.
Remembering the Martyrs
As we mourn the loss of innocent lives, we must also remember the countless martyrs who came before us. Their sacrifices inspire us to fight against injustice and never lose sight of who we are.
We remember those who perished in the Holocaust, who faced unimaginable horrors but never lost their faith. We remember those who fought for Israel’s independence, risking their lives for the dream of a Jewish state. And we remember the countless everyday heroes who have stood up against hatred and prejudice.
Building a Future of Peace
In the aftermath of tragedy, it is natural to feel anger and despair. But let us channel these emotions into building a future of peace and understanding.
As Jews, we must continue to educate others about our rich history and traditions. We must foster dialogue and promote tolerance. And we must stand in solidarity with other communities who face discrimination and persecution.
We are not defined by the actions of a few individuals consumed by hatred. We are defined by our values, our resilience, and our commitment to justice.
Conclusion
The words “I am a Jew” have echoed through centuries of persecution and suffering. They remind us of the strength and courage that reside in our hearts.
As we grieve for the lives lost in Pittsburgh, let us also renew our commitment to our identity as Jews. Let us honor the memory of the martyrs and heroes who came before us, and let us work together towards a brighter future.
Together, we can overcome hatred and build a world where those words, “I am a Jew,” are spoken not with fear, but with pride and hope.
