The Mask Nazis Are Striking Back at the Cochrane Study

Masks don’t work to stop the spread of an airborne virus. They have never worked and they will not again.

You can, if you are inclined to be dishonest, construct an argument that they can, but even without the ton of randomized controlled trials that prove that masks don’t work, I can dispel that argument in less than 5 minutes. I don’t have to refer to fancy studies.

It takes a little common sense.

It’s hard to see how anybody bought the argument–really an assertion–that cloth masks could possibly do anything at all. This is absurd and likely contributed to the increase in the spread of the virus.

A cloth mask will not stop the spread an aerosolized disease. Hold a bandanna up to the light–remember when people were using bandannas as masks?–you can see a zillion holes in the cloth which are many thousands of times larger than a virus. Any virus that sticks to the mask will over time migrate from outside to inside for obvious reasons–you breathe in. These masks can be a breeding ground for germs of any type, as they are warm and moistened and fed by what you exhale. While it seems absurd that these masks would protect you, public health officials have claimed that they do provide some protection.

Nope.

What about surgical masks? Forget the filtration of the mask itself–you breathe in and out almost exclusively through the holes around the mask itself. Although the mask reduces airflow, it makes it more difficult to inhale, it does little to filter what you do actually breathe. Do you think public health officials don’t know this? They’ve known this for decades.

Think about how you use masks. They are worn constantly and removed frequently, with hands that are seldom sanitized. The virus has been found on the outside of the mask and you can still transmit the virus to your skin.

Smart.

What about N95s. Theoretically they could help, but even a 3% gap–allowing an intrusion of the outside air–makes them a little better for infiltration than no mask at all with particles this size. Masks should be taped to the head and fitted tight. Your face will hurt if you don’t use the N95 correctly.

The problem is that you reuse and handle the mask frequently throughout the day. The protective effect of the mask is reduced to zero by the fact that few people actually change it after every use.

But even if you do everything right, reducing the chance of contracting the virus during any one use–a plausible scenario, perhaps–you will have to do everything right and get lucky EVERY SINGLE TIME you use a mask, which for mask fanatics has been tens of thousands of times over the pandemic.

So let’s say masks are 99.9% effective, meaning they protect you 999 times out of a thousand, you are going to get the virus almost certainly. Statistics. You might get lucky, but you probably won’t. Chances are huge that everybody has been exposed to the virus except people who live in bubbles or never go out; it’s just that there are a zillion cases that are asymptomatic.

Your immune system works in many cases without you even realizing it. Do you know of any people who have overcome the odds? There are always some people who beat the odds. That said, it is clear that nearly every mask-loving public health official who promotes vax has been infected.

No fancy statistics are required. You just need to understand that there is no way for perfect compliance, even with near-perfect interventions spread over thousands of days. It is unlikely. Ever.

That’s why the Cochrane study pointed out that compliance was probably one of the reasons masks don’t work. Doctors even reuse masks, as the burden of performing everything flawlessly for many days is too much. This is why even Biolabs have levels of protection–if they could protect themselves against 100% of viruses, even mild ones, without undue burden, then they would. They balance the risks and rewards and will only provide near 100% protection when absolutely necessary. To get there, you will need to put on a spacesuit.

The article linked above lays out a lengthy, statistically-rich case for why Cochrane was wrong. Even were their argument compelling, they don’t touch upon the fact that no RCT has been done to test masks in the wild over time, because everybody but some fanatics actually can figure out that it’s hopeless.

That doesn’t mean it’s irrational for doctors to mask up in certain circumstances. In short periods, surgical masks offer modest splash protection and protection for patients. Although N95s offer some protection for each individual exposure, they will eventually fail if exposed to repeated exposures. In the real world, they will because the exposure risk in the real-world is constant. It’s relentless. It’s every surface, every breath, every time you touch your mask, your nose, your eyes…

So, why is there such a large number of mask fanatics among doctors and public health officials?

For most public health officials, it was an attempt at “train” To make people more willing to comply. This intervention backfired but most people knew it was futile.

A greater percentage of people trust authorities, whether they need them or want them. Particularly authorities with credentials. These people see scientists as priests and become their acolytes. It’s called scientism, and dissenters are heretics.

Some ordinary people then have outsourced such decisions to others and who better to do it than “experts?” Because it is difficult to make good decisions on everything in life and still live, we all do this. We look for people we can trust and then leave it at that.

Many of these people feel betrayed and have since gone on to become homeless. They should.

Expect more attacks on the Cochrane research and other mask skeptics. Also, expect more mandates for masks. It is now a political statement that can be ignored by all reasonable people.

There are still those who believe that the Steele Dossier exists.
