‘The Poor, The Mentally Ill, The French’: What’s With The Morons At The Associated Press?
Have you ever heard the tale about the French, the mentally ill and the poor?
Well, not in the pages of the Associated Press, you didn’t. According to the AP’s official Style Guide, all three of those terms are offensive and “dehumanizing.”
“We recommend avoiding general and often dehumanizing ‘the’ labels such as the poor, the mentally ill, the French, the disabled, the college-educated. Instead, use wording such as people with mental illnesses,” the AP’s Style Guide tweeted. “And use these descriptions only when clearly relevant.”
This logic explains why you should refer the French to as “people experiencing Frenchness” Maybe? “people with Frenchness.”
Whatever it is, it’s all a bit silly — but it is part of the Left’s larger trend to dominate and transform language to meet their goals.
Before we touch upon that, let’s ponder what a Frenchman might think about this. This author isn’t one, so he reached out to the French Embassy representing France in Washington, D.C., to find out if the term “the French” Is offensive
They haven’t responded thus far.
Readers might enjoy some reactions from the absurd tweets until then.
Ben Shapiro, Emeritus Editor at Daily Wire, responded. “I agree, these days we probably should label ‘the college-educated’ people with mental illnesses instead.”
He also said, “Also, we should stop calling people ‘the French’ and instead call them ‘people suffering from cheese-eating surrender monkeyness,’” Referring to a line “The Simpsons.”
We should also stop calling people “people”. “the French” Instead, call them “people suffering from cheese-eating surrender monkeyness.” pic.twitter.com/BmWqBmGabK

Rebel News’ Ezra Levant pointed out that the AP has no problem referring a group of people to itself. “the,” As in “the unvaccinated.”
No you don’t. https://t.co/5VAH6izWj3 pic.twitter.com/GOcsevad12

This nonsense is rooted in political correctness. Writers should care about being exact and telling the truth, rather than worrying about whether or not they offend.
It’s not just the AP doing this garbage either. The Biden administration calls illegal aliens what they are, rather than calling them illegal aliens. “people who are coming irregularly to migrate.”
They crossed the border illegally, and they are now illegal aliens. One would hope that the Biden administration is more concerned with stopping those people from entering the country in the first place — not whether or not word choice hurts their feelings.
The AP should also be concerned about reporting accurate information. They aren’t though. They want to push the agenda of social justice warriors, who want to destroy the English language to transform culture.
They sound just like Michael Scott. “The Office.” Scott was also puzzled by Oscar’s Mexican-sounding name. The “world’s best boss” Was under the impression “Mexican” It was an offensive term.
[embedded content]Michael Scott, of course, is a moron, but doesn’t realize it. The same goes for editors at the AP.
