The View blasts Trump’s ‘temper tantrums’ about inauguration flags at half-staff
The View co-hosts tore into President-elect Donald Trump‘s criticism of American flags flying at half-staff during his inauguration in memory of the late former President Jimmy Carter.
In a post to Truth Social on Friday, Trump wrote that “the Democrats are all ‘giddy’ about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at ‘half mast’ during my Inauguration.”
“They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves,” Trump added. “Look at what they’ve done to our once GREAT America over the past four years – It’s a total mess!
“Nobody wants to see this,” he continued, “And no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
ABC co-host Whoopi Goldberg responded on Monday’s show by criticizing the president-elect.
“Sir? This was one of our presidents,” she said. “He didn’t intend to die and mess up your day. That was not a choice. This is what happened. So you have to just understand, this is how life works. It ain’t always about you, sir. It ain’t always about you.
“Let that flag do what it needs to do and celebrate this man’s life. That’s my two cents.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin chimed in to praise Carter despite Trump’s “temper tantrums.” She called the 39th president “a true visionary,” touting how he worked to combat climate change by putting solar panels on the White House.
Fellow host Sara Haines also praised Carter for living “an extreme life of service” and described him as “a walking missionary.”
During the show, Hostin also attacked Trump on the anniversary of Jan. 6, 2021, and compared the Capitol riots to the Holocaust.
“You don’t move on because Jan. 6 was an atrocity,” she said, “It was one of the worst moments in American history. And when you think about the moments in history, like World War II, the Holocaust, slavery, we need to never forget because past becomes prologue.”
President Joe Biden announced that a national day of mourning will be held on Thursday in honor of Carter. Flags will remain at half-staff for 30 days after Carter’s day of death, which will overlap with the Jan. 20 inauguration of Trump.
