Whoopi Goldberg, ‘The View’ co-host, reveals recent immobility and eating difficulties.

Whoopi Goldberg Shares Her Sobering Fourth of July Experience on “The View”

While her co-hosts on “The View” were regaling each other with stories of their fabulous Fourth of July holidays, Whoopi Goldberg had a different tale to tell.

After returning from a summer break, the five members of the ABC talk show took some time to discuss how they spent their holiday last week.

Most of the panel, including Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, and Ana Navarro, excitedly shared stories of parties and travel adventures.

But when it was Goldberg’s turn, she revealed that she had spent much of the holiday incapacitated.

“I nursed my back,” Goldberg said, as her co-hosts expressed sympathy.

She continued, “I was not very mobile. People came to see me. People fed me. People took care of me, got me to the bathroom. You know, those are the things that are important.”

The 67-year-old comedian vividly described the struggle she faced during her ordeal: “You know, when you’re just trying to get to the bathroom, and it’s way over there, and you’re thinking, ‘aw, c’mon!'”

One of her co-hosts, Sunny Hostin, asked the obvious question: “How did it happen?”

But Goldberg simply replied, “I don’t know. I don’t know what I did.”

She humorously imitated her back saying, “‘Psst! Psst! Try to get up.'” However, she was unable to do so.

Goldberg mentioned that she had tried acupuncture, just like Navarro, after experiencing back problems while traveling. She admitted, “I always thought that was the kookiest thing in the world… [but] it felt so great. Have you tried it?”

Goldberg confirmed that she had tried everything. She explained, “Yes, I’ve tried everything. It is simply that my body is saying, ‘You’ve overdone it, and you need to sit down.'”

She continued, “I don’t sit down. I’m not a big sitter. I’m moving and doing stuff. But I got the message.

“Now, when my body does this, I stop.”

Goldberg concluded, “It was really good for me.”

This wasn’t Goldberg’s first experience with back problems. In July 2021, she spoke on the show about being hospitalized for sciatica, which caused intense pain down her leg.

She humorously compared it to a “bad boyfriend who came back to mess with me.” During that health episode, she had to use a walker, which she referred to as her “new best friend.”

In 2015, Goldberg also missed a couple of weeks on “The View” due to a herniated disc. She attributed the problem to “bad seating, when you’re not seated correctly,” among other factors.
