‘The View’ Host Falsely Claims There Is ‘No Such Thing’ As People Having Late-Term Abortions
“The View” host Sara Haines falsely claimed on Wednesday that there was “no such thing” as people having late-term abortions — and then immediately noted exactly how many people were actually having late-term abortions.
Haines joined her cohosts on the ABC midday talk show to discuss the legislation that would ban all abortions federally after 15 weeks — proposed by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Tuesday — and how it might impact the fast-approaching midterm elections.

Joy Behar began the conversation by suggesting that Democrats should thank Graham for driving more voters to the polls, arguing that people were likely to come out in force to prevent any new laws that might place more restrictions on abortion.
“Listen, Whoopi. Let us take this moment to thank Senator Lindsey Graham, of course, driving more women to vote Democrat in the fall,” Behar said.
“Thank you, so much, because that is exactly what he did, and that’s why people like Jim Jordan are running like rats away from him,” Behar continued.
“It’s bad politics for Republicans,” Alyssa Farah Griffin replied. “For a long time my party has argued states should decide abortion rights … This should have always been decided by the states, so Lindsey Graham just went completely rogue by saying this should be federally –”
“Why do you think he did that?” Behar interrupted.
“I think he thought it was going to give him goodwill with some parts of the base, but I disagree with the approach entirely,” Griffin continued, noting that most Americans did agree with some restrictions on abortion — particularly in the later weeks of pregnancy. “Fifteen weeks is on par with some places in Europe, but let states make that decision.”
“How about let the women make that decision? The hell with the states,” Whoopi Goldberg interrupted.
“The women voting in the states,” Griffin said.
“Excuse me. When you throw it to the federal level though, it should apply to all states,” Haines objected then, saying that Graham’s bill would still allow for individual states to make more restrictive laws. “He also cherry-picked the way it applies. He calls it a late term – late term abortion act. By the way, 15 weeks, for anyone that doesn’t know, is one week into your second trimester and just to clear up an often-referenced myth that is used to get a certain political outcome, there is no such thing as people having late-term abortions.”
“Say that again,” cohost Goldberg interrupted again.
“There is no such thing as people having late-term abortions,” Haines repeated, to applause from the audience.
Haines then immediately contradicted that statement, saying that some 1.3% of abortions were performed after 21 weeks — which would generally be considered “late term.”
“Say that again,” Goldberg interrupted again, this time prompting laughter.
“That is only done for heartbreaking medical reasons. I have yet to see one situation where someone decides that,” Haines concluded. “That is being a myth being shopped around to get a certain political outcome. And 91% of all abortions are performed in the first trimester.”
