The View dedicated a segment on Friday to discuss and debate the controversial topic of who is to blame for the US Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.

One Year After Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization

As Saturday marked one year since the nation’s highest court issued its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the hosts delved into the conversation with a recent comment made by Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris called for federal legislation to codify abortion protections, sparking further discussion.

Congress’ Missed Opportunity

Host Joy Behar expressed her disappointment in Congress, stating that they had the chance to pass legislation in recent years but “dropped the ball” in doing so. She questioned whether there was any hope for change now.

“Well, it’s the only way through, right?” responded Sunny Hostin. She pointed out that the Democrats currently lack the necessary numbers to make it happen.

Sarah Haines chimed in, highlighting the Democrats’ awareness of the vulnerability of Roe v. Wade. She mentioned that during nomination processes, the Democrats consistently asked candidates about their stance on the issue. Haines argued that they should have taken action when they had the votes, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez later joined the program and publicly disagreed with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ abortion ban at six weeks. Suarez expressed his support for a national abortion ban after fifteen weeks, presenting an alternative perspective.

Meanwhile, there are ongoing legal battles surrounding the abortion pill that are currently pending in court.
