The View melts down over Trump’s historic victory: ‘Profoundly disturbed’ – Washington Examiner
In the wake of Donald Trump’s historic victory in the 2024 presidential election against Vice President Kamala Harris, the hosts of ABC’s “The View” expressed their distress over the results. Joy Behar stated her strong disagreement with the election outcome. Co-host Sunny Hostin voiced profound concern about Trump’s potential power, referencing the unpredictability of his first administration and the implications for various social issues. Hostin worries particularly about the future of the working class, social security, and women’s rights, citing her disappointment that the 14th Amendment did not inhibit Trump’s candidacy following the January 6 riot. Whoopi Goldberg indicated that the show did not endorse a candidate, although her statements were met with interruptions from other hosts who expressed their support for Harris. Ana Navarro expressed her disappointment in the election results, reaffirming her commitment to help Harris’s campaign against Trump. The panel reflected a mix of disbelief and serious concern regarding the implications of Trump’s presidency for marginalized communities and broader societal issues.
The View melts down over Trump’s historic victory: ‘Profoundly disturbed’
Following President-elect Donald Trump‘s historic 2024 presidential win, the hosts on ABC’s The View reacted to his defeat over Vice President Kamala Harris.
Host Joy Behar said that she “vehemently disagrees” with the election results.
“I’m profoundly disturbed,” co-host Sunny Hostin reacted on Wednesday. “I think that in 2016, we didn’t know what we would get from a Trump administration, but we know now.”
“We know now he will have almost unfettered power,” Hostin stated as she shared concerns about his presidency.
“I worry not about myself actually. I don’t worry about my station in life. I worry about the working class. I worry about my mother, a retired teacher. I worry about our elderly and their Social Security and Medicare. I worry about my children’s future, especially my daughter who has less rights than I had,” she said to the ABC panel.
Hostin continued to share that she is “profoundly disturbed that the 14th Amendment of the Constitution did not prevent” Trump from becoming president due to the Jan. 6 riot.
“I’m worried about mass deportation and encampments. I’m surprised by the result, but I’m not surprised. As a woman of color, I was so hopeful that a mixed-race woman married to a Jewish guy could be elected president of this country, she said, adding, “It had nothing to do with policy. This was a referendum of cultural resentment in this country.”
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg claimed during a panel discussion that the show didn’t “tell people who to vote for” but was interrupted by her co-hosts chiming in to contradict her by saying: “I did!”
Co-host Ana Navarro said that she is “very disappointed” with the election result and did everything she could to help Harris get elected.
“I have no regrets. I worked hard as hell to elect the first Black, Asian woman president,” Navarro said. “I worked hard as hell for Donald Trump not to be president.”
During an interview on the show, their guest ABC News political director Rick Klein said that abortion was not as much of a “motivating” issue for women this year as it has previously in other elections.
“It has come up so much and people have gotten used to whatever is the new normal,” Klein analyzed, adding that after the Dobbs decision, people “think about other things.”
He shared that many people “held their noses” and voted for Trump over economic factors.
“To me, the voters were out there. It’s just the Democrats didn’t find them but the Republicans did,” Klein concluded.
