‘The View’ Piles On Republican Host For Daring To Say Mental Health Is Related To Shootings
Wednesday’s broadcast of “The View” When the topic was turned to the Monday evening shooting at the Michigan State University campus — and Republican co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, in addition to defending the Second Amendment, dared to suggest that mental health played a role in mass shootings.
Griffin admitted that she would support additional gun control measures. She said that she supported red flag laws and background checks with a wider range of options. However, Griffin argued that individual firearm ownership is protected by the Constitution, and should not be altered.
“Legal gun ownership is fundamental in this country,” She spoke.
Co-host Sunny Hostin brought up the AR-15 — despite it appearing that the shooter at MSU likely used a handgun — referring to it as a “weapon of mass destruction” Griffin to confirm her belief “assault weapons” Should be legal. Griffin noted that collectors and sportsmen favored the AR-15.
“You can’t shoot anything with an AR-15 and get any meat. That’s not sportsmanship. I’m just saying,” Whoopi Goldberg was the co-host.
Griffin continued to push back, saying that while she agreed more could be done to keep guns out of the hands of bad people, shootings were clearly a societal problem — and she argued that one thing that was impossible to ignore was the fact that so many mass shooters fit the same general profile: male loners in their teens-to-mid-forties.

She also noted that statistics showed young men were statistically less likely to go to college than young women, and they were more likely be arrested or killed by suicide. “What is going on with young men in our country that is allowing this to happen, because guns are part of the problem absolutely, but this is where I worry the left and the right bear some responsibility.”
“The left will not touch the mental health side of this and the right will not touch the gun side,” Griffin asserted, prompting objections from co-hosts Joy Behar and Goldberg — but then Hostin jumped in and proved Griffin’s point.
“We’ve said this many many times, let’s stop blaming mental health,” Hostin claimed that victims more often than perpetrators are people with mental illness.
“People who shoot up Sandy Hook, that’s not a person in their right mind,” Griffin was rebuffed.
