Many people turned on their televisions to watch ABC’s morning talk show, The View, address President-elect Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory, bringing the program the largest amount of views it’s had in years.

On Wednesday, the morning after Election Day, The View garnered 4.47 million viewers, the highest number of viewers the show has had in over 10 years. The last time the talk show saw these types of numbers was when the late Barbara Walters, a former co-host of the show, had her final episode draw in over 5 million viewers

Most of The View’s discussion in its shows following Election Day focused on President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, with co-host Joy Behar saying she “vehemently disagrees” with the election results. Fellow co-host Sunny Hostin also said she was “profoundly disturbed” by Trump winning, warning that he will have “unfettered power.”

On Thursday, The View invited sports journalist Stephen A. Smith as a guest on the show, who assessed that Harris and the Democratic Party lost the election due to catering to voters “on the fringes.” He also argued that Harris made “a huge mistake” by not appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, with Trump’s appearance on the podcast becoming one of the show’s most streamed episodes on YouTube, with almost 50 million views.

While The View benefited from a viewership spike amid election season, the same could not be said for other left-liberal media, including CNN, which saw anchors Anderson Cooper and Jake Tapper’s coverage of election night garner 5.1 million viewers, a 44% decrease from the 2020 election. Comparatively, MSNBC drew in over 6 million viewers, marking the most viewers for MSNBC on an election night and the first time the network beat out CNN in election night viewership.
