Oops! Anheuser Busch made a big mistake by partnering with Mulvaney, says former exec. Find out why it was the wrong bet to make.
Former Anheuser-Busch executive Anson Frericks didn’t hold back when he spoke out against the company’s decision to partner with trans-identifying influencer Dylan Mulvaney for their iconic Bud Light brand. During a recent appearance on “Fox & Friends,” Frericks expressed his concern that the company was making a huge mistake by betting their future on Bud Light drinkers forgetting about the controversial partnership.
Frericks suggested that instead of hoping people would forget, the company should listen to what their customers want and steer in that direction. He believes that Bud Light should focus on bringing people together with humor, football, and other things that bind us as co-equal citizens, rather than getting involved in political controversies that tear us apart.
Frericks also pointed out that many companies are making the same mistake by being loyal to political activist groups and promoting their companies’ implementation of Environmental Social Governance (ESG) policies instead of appealing to potential customers or even their own shareholders.
It seems that Anheuser-Busch has taken notice of the backlash over the Bud Light/Dylan Mulvaney partnership and has announced a staffing shake-up, including sending Bud Light marketing VP Alissa Heinerscheid on a leave of absence. Hopefully, this move will ensure that senior marketers are more closely connected to every aspect of the brand’s activities.
