Donald Trump has one exception in his presidential campaign.
Former President Donald Trump’s Stance on the Republican Nominee Pledge
In a recent interview with Newsmax TV host Eric Bolling, former President Donald Trump expressed his hesitation to sign a pledge supporting the eventual nominee for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination, if it turns out to be someone other than himself.
This decision could potentially disqualify him from the first upcoming 2024 debate, scheduled for August 23. Despite his strong lead in numerous primary polls, Trump has not confirmed whether he will participate in the debate.
During the interview, Trump revealed another concern he has regarding the debate. He stated, “I have a problem with the debate for another reason. I wouldn’t sign the pledge.”
The Republican National Committee has made it clear that one of the requirements for participating in the debates is the commitment to support the party’s eventual nominee. Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has already signed the pledge earlier in the day.

Trump explained his reluctance to sign the pledge, questioning the need for it. He stated, “Why would I sign a pledge? There are people on there that I wouldn’t have. I wouldn’t have certain people as, you know, somebody that I’d endorse.”
When asked if he would share the names of candidates he could never support, Trump declined, stating, “I don’t wanna do that, there’s no reason to insult them, but there are some people there that a lot of people wouldn’t endorse.”
Trump also expressed his reservations about debating candidates who are not resonating with primary voters. He mentioned individuals like Asa Hutchinson and Chris Christie, who have low polling numbers and may ask him “nasty questions.”
However, Trump did offer praise for two individuals who will be on the debate stage in two weeks in Milwaukee. He said, “I mean, Tim Scott has been very nice, and Ramaswamy has been very, very nice. I mean, these are, you know, very capable people, very good people.”
Despite his current lead in the polls, Trump acknowledged that previous presidents like Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon did not sign similar pledges. He stated, “But why would you do that when you’re leading by so much? Ronald Reagan didn’t do it, Nixon didn’t do it — many people didn’t do it. But I’m going to look at it seriously.”
As of now, Trump has not made a final decision on whether he will sign the pledge or participate in the upcoming debate.
