Republican candidates eligible for second debate.
In just three weeks, get ready for an electrifying showdown as GOP presidential candidates take the stage for the highly anticipated second primary debate in the 2024 cycle.
This thrilling event will be held on September 27th at the iconic Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. With stricter requirements than the first debate, this is sure to be a riveting and high-stakes affair. Moderating the debate will be the esteemed duo of Fox News anchor Dana Perino and Fox Business anchor Stuart Varney.
To qualify for this highly anticipated debate, candidates must demonstrate strong support with a minimum of 50,000 unique donors, including 200 donors from 20 states or territories. This is a significant increase from the requirements of the first debate.
Furthermore, candidates must meet specific polling thresholds to secure a spot on the California debate stage. They must achieve a minimum of 3 percent in two national polls or 3 percent in one nationwide poll and two polls from different early voting states, such as Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada. All polls must be recognized by the RNC.
The RNC’s requirements for the first debate were slightly less stringent, with candidates needing to poll at least 1 percent in three national polls or 1 percent in two national polls plus 1 percent in a poll recognized by the RNC in two of the early states.
Finally, a notable requirement for all candidates is to sign a pledge affirming their commitment to support the eventual party nominee. This pledge ensures that candidates will only participate in debates sanctioned by the Republican National Committee, as stated in Rule 10(a)(11) of The Rules of the Republican Party. Failure to sign the pledge or participate in unsanctioned debates will render candidates ineligible for further Republican National Committee sanctioned debates.
The pledge also includes a promise to honor the will of the primary voters and support the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, with candidates vowing not to run as independent or write-in candidates or seek the nomination of any other party.
Participants
As of press time, the lineup for the second debate includes some heavyweight contenders. Former President Donald Trump, who continues to dominate the polls, is presumed to have qualified. Joining him are former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Vice President Mike Pence, all of whom have qualified according to their respective campaigns.
The campaign of conservative pundit and former EpochTV host Larry Elder has expressed confidence in meeting the donor requirement. They are seeking clarification from the RNC regarding the acceptance of specific polls.
