Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) Responds to Biden’s Green Energy Scheme
In a three-word tweet, Massie made his stance clear on the Biden administration’s latest green energy plan that would introduce new hot water heating standards and disrupt the market. Massie simply said, “Leave us alone.”
The Department of Energy plans to update hot water heater standards, requiring electric water heaters to achieve efficiency gains with heat pump technology and gas-fired water heaters to use condensing technology, according to Reuters.
Massie argues that these products already exist in the free market, rendering government interference unnecessary. He believes that consumers should have the freedom to decide whether the upfront cost of a heat-pump water heater is worth the potential long-term savings.
The Energy Department claims that these new standards would save consumers billions of dollars. However, critics argue that the standards are “technologically impossible” and would limit consumer choice.

According to Reuters, the Biden administration has already proposed or finalized 18 new efficiency standards for various products, often under the guise of health, safety, and climate change. One notable example is the push for new standards for gas stoves, which experts say would make them too expensive and effectively remove them from the market.
In May, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm announced new efficiency regulations for dishwashers, beverage vending machines, and electric motors, as reported by The Daily Wire. These regulations would require significant changes in product design and would ultimately increase costs for consumers.
Conservative conservationist Gabriella Hoffman expressed her concerns on Twitter, questioning the energy efficiency and cost-saving claims of banning gas stoves and water heaters. She believes that the green energy lobby is the primary beneficiary of these policies and that questioning them is now seen as stoking a culture war.
