Three lawyers who could be tapped for Trump’s White House counsel

Three lawyers who have played key roles in defending President-elect Donald Trump and his allies in the criminal investigations against them are reportedly under consideration for his White House counsel.

Attorneys David Warrington, the general counsel for the Trump campaign, Stanley Woodward, a defense lawyer who has defended many Trump allies in court, and Mike Davis, a Republican operative and former Senate aide, are in the mix, according to reporting from Politico and the Wall Street Journal. Others are also under consideration for the role.

Warrington is a partner at Dhillon Law Group. He represented Trump during the House Jan. 6 select committee’s investigation alongside former national security adviser Michael Flynn, former White House personnel adviser Johnny McEntee, and “Stop the Steal” organizers Amy and Kylie Kremer. He also represented Trump in civil lawsuits stemming from the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol brought by members of Congress and police officers.

Before entering Trump’s orbit during the 2016 Republican National Convention, Warrington was the general counsel for Ron Paul’s 2012 campaign.

Woodward, alongside his law partner Stan Brand, has spent the last few years representing Trump aide Dan Scavino before the Jan. 6 select committee as well as special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into Trump and his allies’ effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

He has also represented other Trump allies in legal trouble, including former adviser Kash Patel, former White House trade adviser Peter Navarro, and Trump’s body man Walt Nauta, who was charged alongside Trump in the classified documents case in Florida.

Mike Davis was the chief counsel for nominations to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) during the Trump administration. He is a Republican operative whose Article 3 Project backs conservative judges. According to the Wall Street Journal, his name has been discussed by Trump allies for the job or for another legal-related post in the administration.

According to Trump’s team, however, no final decisions on Trump’s White House counsel have been made.

“President-Elect Trump will begin making decisions on who will serve in his second Administration soon,” Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. “Those decisions will be announced when they are made.”
