Three University of South Carolina Gamecocks Freshman Suspended After Monteque Rhames II Arrested on Weapons Charge
The University of South Carolina’s football team announced on Friday that three of its freshman players had been suspended from the program after being charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm.
Monteque Rhames II, a freshman defensive end, was arrested Thursday night. He was charged with obstruction of justice and possessing weapons on school property.
Rhames was released later in the evening after posting a $10,000 personal recognition bond. This means that Rhames was freed without having to post bail and with the condition that he appear in court on March 31st.
Safety players Anthony Rose, Cameron Upshaw and Cameron Upshaw were also suspended.
Rose, who signed with South Carolina in 2022 as part of Coach Shane Beamer’s first recruiting class, was rated as the 33rd-best safety by The 247Sports Composite The 28th-best safety Rivals. Rhames, Upshaw and others enrolled in classes this month.
