Three U.S. airlines warn of higher ​fuel‍ costs in Q3 due to surge in crude prices

Three major U.S. airlines ​have issued warnings about the impact of rising crude ⁣oil prices ⁢on their fuel costs for the third quarter. Alaska‍ Air Group has revised its ‌pre-tax margin forecast downwards,⁣ while Southwest⁣ Airlines remains optimistic about achieving ⁣a solid ​profit.⁣ United Airlines, on​ the ‌other hand, ⁢expects its capacity, operating revenue, and​ cost per available seat mile to align with ⁢previous​ guidance. The industry ‌is already grappling with expensive labor contracts, adding to the pressures faced‍ by these airlines.

Alaska Air⁤ now expects an adjusted pre-tax margin of 10% ​to 12% for the third quarter, lower than its previous estimate⁤ of 14% to ⁤16%. The ‌Washington State-based carrier ‍has also revised its revenue growth ​projection to 1% to 2%, down‍ from ‍the earlier range of ‍flat to⁣ 3%. Meanwhile, shares‍ of Southwest ‍Airlines have‍ fallen by 4.3%‍ before the market opened.
