Tim Allen Confirms He’s Back As Buzz Lightyear For ‘Toy Story’ 5
Tim Allen definitely got everyone’s attention when confirmed he’s returning as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in “Toy Story” 5 after Disney’s CEO Bob Iger announced a new sequel was in the works.
The 69-year-old actor tweeted a photo of the character Buzz from the monster hit animated film franchise “Toy Story” following the flop of Disney’s 2022 Pixar prequel “Lightyear,” which recast the spaceman with Marvel’s Chris Evans.
“See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity,” Allen tweeted in the now-viral post. “And off we go to a number 5! To infinity and beyond!”

Allen’s comments came only hours after Iger announced that the studio was currently developing sequels for “Frozen,” “Toy Story,” and “Zootopia.”
Allen previously broke his silence on Evans voicing the iconic spaceman in the origin-based film. He said there’s “no connection” to his famed character in the animated franchise, though he wished there was.
“The short answer is I’ve stayed out of this because it has nothing to do [with my character],” he said. “This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.”
“It’s a wonderful story,” he added. “It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy, and it’s a little … I don’t know. It just has no relationship to Buzz. It’s just no connection. I wish there was a better connection to this.”
Allen said that any “Toy Story” movie about Buzz must include Tom Hanks’ character, Woody. “There’s really no ‘Toy Story’ Buzz without Woody.”
Hanks later admitted he didn’t “understand” why Disney replaced Allen with the “Avengers” star as the voice of Buzz for the “Lightyear” film, CinemaBlend reported.
In June, Disney/Pixar faced a backlash over its decision to have Evans voice Buzz in the new movie, which featured LGBTQ scenes, which some speculated was the reason for the switch.
