‘Today Was A Win For Every Mother, Every Father’: House GOP Passes Parents Rights Bill
The Parents Bill of Rights act was approved by the House of Representatives on Friday in a largely party-line vote. Five Republicans joined the Democrats in their unanimity of opposition to the proposal: Andy Biggs ( AZ ), Ken Buck( CO ), Matt Gaetz( FL ), Mike Lawler( NY ), and Matt Rosendale( MT ).
When the bill was discussed on the House floor, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez referred to it as fascist, saying,” When we talk about democratic values, I may say what my liberal value is, and that is independence over fasciz.” Senator Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York, agreed with her and remarked that the proposal was” Orwellian to the base.”
However, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy declared,” The Republicans put out our commitment to America ,” in celebration of the victory. We promised that we would have a Parents Bill of Rights as part of our commitment to America. We are upholding our commitments to America, and this is exactly what we passed on the floor today. Every child, every parents, but most importantly, for every American student, today was a victory. Although there is currently a Parents Bill of Rights, the Democrats are too serious to think that kids may be involved in their children’s education.
Hope kept! Keep your word! Today was a victory for every family, every father, but most significantly, for each and every student in America, said Speaker McCarthy. Despite the fact that you just have a Parents’ Bill of Rights, the Democrats are too serious to support the right of parents to voice their opinions. photo. twitter.com / N8NhaHgp6W

The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Julia Letlow( R-LA ), said,” This bill is not complex or complicated.” Contrary to what you may notice from my colleagues on the other side of the hall, it is not an assault on our hard-working teachers, who will always be the hero in my eye. It also shouldn’t be political or polarizing.
She continued,” It is not an effort to have Congress set the program or the library’s guides.” Therefore, this bill seeks to increase accountability and transparency in the classroom, enabling families to inform their children and legitimately get them before their local college boards when they have questions.
According to the proposal, parents should have the freedom to review and make free copies of their kid school education, which should be made publicly available. They should also have access to a list of the books and other reading materials that are kept in the school library, as well as the ability to check them out and see if any school staff members or contractors alter the gender markers, pronouns, or preferred names of small children or allow them to alter sex-based accommodations, such as locker rooms or bathrooms.
Additionally, the act would grant parents the right to determine whether their child’s school offers athletic programs or activities that permit transgender students to take part in a sport that is incompatible with their natural female. Additionally, it may give kids the right to know if their child’s college permits a trans-identifying student access to the restroom or changing area that is incompatible with their biological sex.
The bill continues,” Educators, legislators, elected leaders, Executive Branch individuals, and other stakeholders should never attempt to use law enforcement to prosecute parents’ legitimate concerns about their children’s degree.”

Democrats control the Senate, so there is little risk that the proposal will pass. House Democrats have also given the legislation the moniker” Politics over Parents Act.”
