Tom Brady Announces His Retirement “For Good” From the NFL
Seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady In a video message posted on social media, he announced that he will be retiring from the NFL.
Brady, 45 is widely considered to be one of the greatest players at his position. His 23-year-long career has seen him reach 15 Pro Bowls and win five league MVP Awards. His accomplishments are so numerous that his name is in all the records. He is the all-time game’s leader in completions (7.753), yards (89.214) and touchdowns (649).
Brady contemplated retirement after winning six titles in New England playing for Coach Bill Belichick. He signed with Tampa Bay in 2020. In his first season with the Buccaneers, Brady would win his seventh Super Bowl. He would be reunited there with Rob Gronkowski (his old Patriot partner in crime).
Florida’s sunshine seemed to suit a man near retirement.
Unfortunately, Brady and the Bucs have experienced a downturn in their last two seasons. They won the woeful NFC South. But at 8-9, they didn’t look like they had a prayer of advancing in the postseason. They were Bounced By the Dallas Cowboys, 31-14 in the first round, the team looked tired and old, even their forever-young signal calling.
Brady wasn’t a slouch throughout the regular season. He still threw. threw for 4694 yards and 25 touchdowns.
He had already, half-heartedly, put off his retirement to go back for another round last year. He once made a famous announcement that he was quitting. However, he had an idea to join the Miami Dolphins. Then he decided to return to Tampa for 2022.
However, the frustration and fatigue were already evident. And the whispers grew into full-fledged gossip as the season progressed: This looked more and more like it was Tom Brady’s final season. At least, in Tampa.
Now, he’s confirmed that he won’t be playing for anyone in 2023. Brady has said that he is retiring. “for good” This is it.
The future NFL Hall of Famer was reserved and reminiscing in his farewell video. As with many of his fourth-quarter comebacks he tried to keep calm and cool at the moment.
Still, Tom Brady couldn’t hide a hint of emotion as he bid farewell to those who helped him on his epic journey.
“My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors. I could go on forever. There’s too many,” Brady stated. “Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all.”
When his story is eventually written, Brady’s will be about an unlikely hero who rose to the level of royalty. He rose to new heights, while starting from the bottom of the heap.
The Patriots selected him 199th in the 2000 draft, six behind other quarterbacks. During his rookie campaign, he played in only one game and didn’t exactly look like a future great: The University of Michigan product finished the season having only gone one-for-three for six yards.
Drew Bledsoe sustained serious injuries in 2001. The Brady Era was established in New England.
It was the most successful run any head coach or quarterback would ever make in NFL history. After defeating the St. Louis Rams, ‘The Greatest Show on Turf’ In Super Bowl XXXVI, the next 17 decades were like a whirlwind.
New England’s accomplishments in the 2000s-2010s outperformed anything the NFL had ever seen. It also rivaled legendary franchises from every sport and era. The Murderers’ Row Yankees of 1920s Major League Baseball or the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens from the 1950s-70s come to mind… but that’s about it.
Brady and his teams have put up incredible numbers over the years. Joe Montana was the Super Bowl’s gold standard for QBs and he retired with four rings. TB12 holds almost twice as many rings. And he’s played in a whopping TEN title games. The ability to stay healthy and play that well for so many years will likely never be seen by sports fans’ eyes again.
To say that Brady’s departure from a league where he will always be a figurehead is hard to overstate. His impact on the NFL and football was unmatched. His record of wins is unfathomable. His road to Canton has been literally paved with gold.
Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs quarterback and successor to him in signal calling, shared his thoughts about the G.O.A.T. “It’s special to see the things he has done in this league. The way he was able to change the position — the longevity of great success. That’s the crazy part: looking at his career, he has never really had a down year.”
