Tom Cruise’s ‘Terrible’ Temper Would ‘Boil Up And Explode’, Former Manager Claims

Tom Cruise’s former manager decided to speak up about some rude behavior the “Top Gun” alum exhibited when he was just starting out in Hollywood. Eileen Berlin, now 86, worked with Cruise early in his career. Apparently, a young Cruise even crashed at her house sometimes.

“Tommy had a terrible temper,” Berlin recalled during an interview with The Daily Mail.

She remembered one specific incident when the “Eyes Wide Shut” star didn’t care for the birthday present she purchased for him.

“I presented him with an album with all his publicity articles from teen magazines,” she explained. “He screamed, ‘I don’t want to be in the teen mags.’”

“It was like something was smoldering and it would boil up and explode. I put it down to his insecurity.”

Berlin mentioned Cruise’s ego and his meticulous nature. The star’s former manager said, “What I have never seen is a real display of happiness in Tommy. He was always very, very ambitious, very, very determined to be a star. And that made him a perfectionist.”

It’s possible that Cruise has matured a bit since the incident Berlin is referring to, which happened during his 19th birthday celebration. But he did lose his temper in December 2020 during a moment that was recorded and quickly went viral.

The incident happened on the set of “Mission Impossible: 7.” During filming, Cruise encountered two crew members standing too closely together when they were supposed to be social distancing. The A-list actor began berating them in front of everyone.

In the video, Cruise can be heard screaming, “If I see you do it again, you’re f***ing gone. And if anyone in this crew does it, that’s it — and you too and you too. And you, don’t you ever f***ing do it again. They’re back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of us. We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherf***ers.”

“That’s it. No apologies. You can tell it to the people that are losing their f***ing homes because our industry is shut down,” he shouted.

Cruise defended his outburst during an interview a few months later. He told Empire Magazine in May, “I said what I said. There was a lot at stake at that point. But it wasn’t my entire crew. I had the crew leave the set, and it was just select people.”

Cruise noted that filming was “never shut down again,” The Daily Wire originally reported.

“All those emotions were going through my mind,” he told the outlet. “I was thinking about the people I work with, and my industry. And for the whole crew to know that we’d started rolling on a movie was just a huge relief. It was very emotional, I gotta tell you.”

Berlin mentioned that she’s not too surprised that Cruise’s marriages ended in divorce.

“I was just shocked that he had three marriages and that they lasted as long as they did,” the former manager told The Daily Mail. “I wish he had other things in his life. But I don’t think he loves people. He loves what he does.”

“’I feel sad for him,” she continued. “I worry that he is lonely. As long as he can work and make his kind of films, he’ll be okay. What will happen if ever he can’t do that, I don’t know.”
