Top Biden allies urge president to abandon struggling ‘Bidenomics’ message.
Top Allies Urge President Joe Biden to Abandon “Bidenomics” Message as Economy Struggles
President Joe Biden is facing pressure from his closest allies to rebrand his economic agenda, known as ”Bidenomics,” as his approval ratings on the economy continue to decline.
The White House has been promoting “Bidenomics” as a way to restore normalcy and revive the economy after the devastating impact of the pandemic. However, the economic recovery has been sluggish due to high inflation and interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve.
Concerned about the negative polling results for Democrats on economic issues, top Biden allies are now pushing for a change in messaging.
Representative Steven Horsford (D-NV), chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, emphasized the importance of framing the economic policies in a way that benefits the people rather than focusing solely on the presidency. He stated, “We have to do a better job framing this not so much for one person — for the office of the presidency — but for the people.”
Progressive Policy Institute President Will Marshall also criticized the effectiveness of “Bidenomics” and urged the White House to find a more compelling approach as the 2024 elections approach.
Marshall stated, “At this point, Bidenomics doesn’t really have strong answers to people’s biggest worries. There ought to be a lot of thinking in the White House now about changes in the way they present their case for the economic good that this administration has done.”
A recent NBC News poll revealed that Republicans now hold the largest advantage over Democrats on economic issues in the history of the poll.
The poll, conducted from September 15-19, showed that 49% of Americans favor Republican economic policy compared to 28% who favor Democrat policy. Republicans also had an advantage on other key issues such as border security, crime, immigration, and protecting constitutional rights.

Republican pollster Bill McInturff highlighted the significant lead Republicans have on economic issues and other important topics, stating, “On this survey after 20 or 30 years, Republicans dealing with the economy [versus Democrats], immigration and crime are all at their all-time highs.”
Furthermore, McInturff noted that Republicans are perceived as better equipped to protect constitutional rights and democracy, which is unexpected but influential in shaping public opinion.
How do Biden’s allies propose shifting the messaging surrounding his economic agenda?
T. He stated, “We need to shift the narrative and make sure people understand how these policies are directly impacting their lives. The message needs to be about jobs, wages, and affordability, not just about Bidenomics.”
Other allies, including Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) and Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), have also expressed their concerns over the messaging surrounding Biden’s economic agenda. They argue that the term “Bidenomics” is too abstract and does not resonate with the average American struggling to make ends meet.
Senator Warner stressed the importance of showing tangible results and delivering on campaign promises. He said, “We need to clearly communicate how our policies are putting money back in people’s pockets, creating jobs, and improving their daily lives. ‘Bidenomics’ does not effectively convey that message.”
As the economy continues to face challenges such as supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, and rising prices, Biden’s allies believe that it is crucial to reframe the economic agenda in a way that connects with the American people. They suggest focusing on specific policies and initiatives that address these immediate concerns rather than relying on a broad and abstract term like “Bidenomics.”
Representative Jayapal suggested highlighting initiatives such as the expanded child tax credit, investment in infrastructure, and efforts to lower prescription drug prices. She argued, “We have to define our economic agenda in terms of real solutions that people can feel and understand. By emphasizing concrete actions rather than vague concepts, we can build trust and confidence in our economic policies.”
While changing the messaging around Biden’s economic agenda will not solve all the challenges facing the economy, it is seen as a necessary step to regain public support and confidence. As the midterm elections approach, Democrats are keen to address the concerns of voters who are feeling the impact of the current economic situation.
Political strategist Carla Lombard has advised the Biden administration to take these concerns seriously. She stated, “Voters want to see results, and they want to feel like their elected representatives are fighting for their interests. The current messaging around Bidenomics is not resonating with ordinary Americans. A change in messaging is essential to rebuild trust and win back support.”
President Biden’s approval ratings on the economy have taken a hit in recent months as the economic recovery has not met expectations. By rebranding the economic agenda and focusing on tangible benefits for the American people, Biden and his allies hope to demonstrate progress and restore confidence in their ability to address the economic challenges facing the nation.
As President Biden considers the advice from his allies, the public will be watching for a shift in messaging that resonates with their daily lives and experiences. Only time will tell whether this rebranding effort can bring about the desired change in perception and support for Biden’s economic agenda.
