‘Top Chef’ Host Padma Lakshmi: ‘You Have No Business Being A Parent’ If You Reject Transgenderism

Padma Lakshmi, host of Bravo’s “Top Chef,” closed out Women’s History Month by admonishing parents who do not let their children choose their gender.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, the noted Planned Parenthood activist said that “you have no business being a parent” if you reject transgenderism.

“If you can’t accept your child for who they’re telling you they are, then you have no business being a parent,” she tweeted.

“Gender: used to describe characteristics that are socially constructed, encompasses a range of identities Sex: a label initially assigned by a doctor at birth Sexual orientation: emotional, romantic or sexual attraction to other people, ” she added. “Gender expression: the way you choose to express yourself on the gender spectrum through your behavior, clothing, haircut, etc. This can vary day to day or over time, it’s unique to each individual.”

“Non-binary: someone who identifies on the spectrum of gender identities that are not exclusively masculine or feminine‍,” her PSA concluded.

In a later tweet, Lakshmi claimed that trans people are as old as time itself.

“Trans people: have existed since the dawn of humanity,” she said. “All of the bizarre false equivalency ‘what about-isms’ or the litany of reasons why you feel people who are different from you don’t deserve basic human rights are not only deeply stupid, but painfully corny.”

On the same day that Lakshmi issued her PSA about transgenderism, major Hollywood actresses and women’s activists signed an open letter condemning feminists that refuse to accept transgender ideology, characterizing them as hateful bigots.

“In observance of Women’s History Month and Transgender Day of Visibility, we write this letter as feminist leaders in advocacy, business, entertainment, media, politics, and social justice who stand as, with, and for transgender and nonbinary people. Trans women and girls have been an integral part of the fight for gender liberation. We uphold that truth and denounce the ongoing anti-transgender rhetoric and efforts we witness in various industries,” the letter from the Gay Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) read.

“We acknowledge with clarity and strength that transgender women are women and that transgender girls are girls. And we believe that honoring the diversity of women’s experiences is a strength, not a detriment to the feminist cause,” it continues. “All of us deserve the same access, freedoms, and opportunities. We deserve equal access to education, employment, healthcare, housing, recreation, and public accommodations. And we must respect each person’s right to bodily autonomy and self-determination.”

The letter was also signed by various organization’s claiming to fight for women’s rights such as Time’s Up, Me Too, Women’s March, Planned Parenthood, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, Ms. Foundation, 3% Movement, National Women’s Law Center, GLAAD, the Trevor Project, LGBTQ Task Force, GLSEN, Athlete Ally, National Center for Lesbian Rights, Lesbians Who Tech.
