GOP Leader Accuses Biden Official of Possible Treason
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) raised eyebrows on Sunday by suggesting that a top Biden administration official, whose security clearance has been suspended, may have potentially committed treason. While acknowledging that there is currently no proof of such wrongdoing, McCaul’s remarks have sparked intrigue.
The FBI is currently investigating Rob Malley, President Joe Biden’s special envoy to Iran, over alleged mishandling of classified documents. The investigation has reportedly taken a serious turn, indicating that there may be more at play than just a simple mishandling of documents.
During an interview on CBS News’s “Face The Nation” with host Margaret Brennan, McCaul addressed the report and expressed his concerns. When asked if he had received any promise of a briefing on Rob Malley’s suspension, McCaul revealed that their request had been rebuked and they were left with no answers. He emphasized the significance of the situation, highlighting Malley’s role as a top negotiator on Iran’s nuclear weapons program and the sensitivity of the classified information involved.
McCaul went on to state that they have set a deadline of July 25th for the diplomatic security and management secretary to come in and provide a classified briefing. He stressed the gravity of the situation, expressing concerns that if Malley had indeed transferred intelligence and secrets to foreign adversaries, it would be a worst-case scenario and tantamount to treason.
When Brennan pointed out that there was currently no proof of such actions, McCaul acknowledged this but maintained that if it were true, it would be considered treason in his view.
