Trans lifeguard exposes breasts during job tryout, GOP mayor criticizes ‘wokeism.’
Transgender Woman Bares Breasts During Lifeguard Training Session
Children and Parents Witness Incident at Jacksonville Aquatic Center
A transgender woman who identifies as male shocked onlookers during a trial session for prospective lifeguards at the Cecil Aquatic Center in Jacksonville, Florida. The woman removed her shirt, exposing her bare breasts, in full view of 40 to 50 children and their parents who were no more than 15 to 20 feet away.
The woman was one of 21 trainees participating in the session. A spokesperson for the city of Jacksonville confirmed the incident, stating that the woman completed a portion of the training with 20 other trainees. While the ages of the children present are unknown, JaxParks recruits lifeguards starting at age 15.
Mayor Condemns Incident
Mayor Lenny Curry of Jacksonville acknowledged complaints made about the incident and condemned the action. He stated that public pools and parks are meant to be safe places for families to enjoy themselves, and that parents should not be caught in the crossfire of battles over “wokeism.”
Curry continued, “I see no reason for our lifeguards to be forced to make changes to existing rules mandating that biological females cover their chests.”
Transgender Rights Activist Responds
Cielo Sunsarae, the executive director and founder of Queer Trans Project, protested the mayor’s comments, stating that children do not sexualize breasts and that adults are making the issue bigger than it is. Sunsarae called for proper education, advocacy, and basic respect for transgender individuals.
Florida State Law Requirements for Lifeguards
According to Florida state law, lifeguards and swimming instructors at public pools must be certified in first aid and in adult, child, and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation through various organizations.
The woman who identified as male was not hired as a lifeguard.
