The NHC warns that swells generated by Hurricane Franklin will begin affecting Bermuda and parts of the U.S. eastern seaboard. These swells could result in life-threatening surf and rip current conditions along the east coast.
Although Hurricane Franklin is not expected to make landfall in the United States, the NHC emphasizes that the weather conditions it produces can still be dangerous. The hurricane-force winds could extend up to 10 miles from the center, with tropical storm-force winds reaching up to 140 miles.
DeSantis Declares Emergency
In the northwestern Caribbean Sea and the eastern Gulf of Mexico, an area of low pressure known as Invest 93L is becoming better organized. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency in 33 counties and urged residents to have their hurricane plans in place.
According to the NHC, there is a 90 percent chance that Invest 93L will develop into a cyclone within the next 48 hours. Early models suggest that it could make landfall in Florida between Tuesday and Thursday.
Residents are advised to stay vigilant and prepare for possible impacts early next week.
