Tropical Storm Warning Issued for East Coast
Get ready for some stormy weather! A tropical storm warning has been issued from coastal North Carolina all the way up to Delaware. Brace yourselves for a potential tropical cyclone that’s making its way towards the East Coast.
The National Hurricane Center has dubbed this weather disturbance as “Potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen.” Currently located about 370 miles southeast of Charleston, South Carolina, it’s steadily moving north at 9 mph. With maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, this storm means business.
According to the hurricane center, a potential tropical cyclone is defined as a disturbance that poses a threat of tropical storm or hurricane conditions within 48 hours. This means that the East Coast could be facing some serious weather by Friday night or early Saturday.
Pay attention to the warnings! The tropical storm warning is in effect from Cape Fear, North Carolina, all the way to Fenwick Island, Delaware. This also includes the Chesapeake Bay south of Smith Point, as well as Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds.
But that’s not all. A storm surge watch has also been issued from Surf City, North Carolina, to Chincoteague, Virginia. Brace yourselves for a storm surge between 2 and 4 feet, which is expected to hit the coast.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Nigel is still making waves over the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean as a Category 1 storm. With maximum sustained winds of 85 mph, Nigel is centered about 505 miles southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland, and moving northeast at a rapid pace of 30 mph.
Forecasters predict that Nigel will weaken in the next couple of days. By Thursday night or early Friday, it could transform into a post-tropical cyclone.
