Anaheim Ducks’ Troy Terry Completes Hat ⁤Trick in Overtime Victory

ANAHEIM, Calif.—Anaheim coach Greg Cronin had a question‌ for Troy Terry before the Ducks faced the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday⁣ night, Nov. 1.

On a team‌ that boasts three of the NHL’s top 30‌ scorers, why wasn’t Terry one of⁢ them?

Terry took the challenge to heart and delivered. With just⁣ 1:33 left ⁣on the clock in overtime, the​ right‍ wing scored the⁣ game-winning goal, completing the second hat trick of his ​career and securing the Ducks’ fifth​ consecutive win with a 4–3 victory over the ​Coyotes.

“I ⁤couldn’t be happier that we’ve been playing games. But‍ selfishly, I’ve wanted to contribute more,” ⁣Terry expressed. “I was hoping ⁣that I can start putting these home and kind of take us to another level and‍ hopefully add some more scoring.”

Terry had an outstanding ​performance, earning a career-high four points. He kicked off‍ the ⁣night with⁢ two power-play goals in the first ⁣period and assisted‍ on Leo Carlsson’s third-period goal, which sent the game into overtime.

Terry received a pass from Mason McTavish and scored the winning goal against Karel​ Vejmelka, securing the Ducks’ third overtime victory of the⁢ season. This goal also ⁢brought Terry’s season total to five goals and nine ‍points.

Furthermore, this win marked the⁢ Ducks’ longest‌ winning streak in two years.

The Ducks have now ⁣become​ the fourth team in ‌NHL history to secure four ​victories in their first 10 games⁢ after trailing in the⁢ third period. The other teams to achieve this feat were Columbus ​(2021–22), ‌Tampa Bay (2013–14), Detroit ⁤(2008–09), and⁤ Toronto (1934–35).

“They’re starting to figure ⁣it out and they’re able to transfer the ⁤practice stuff, and I think they can identify why ​we do certain things,” Cronin commented on his young squad. “Hopefully they ⁤continue‍ to learn and build strength and⁣ confidence.⁤ And we can keep this going.”

This season has already seen three hat tricks from the Ducks, with Frank Vatrano scoring the other two. Additionally, this was the fourth time ⁤a Ducks’ player completed a hat trick with ⁢an‍ overtime goal.

Lawson Crouse scored⁢ twice and Logan Cooley netted his first‌ NHL goal ‌for the Arizona‌ Coyotes,‌ who have ​lost ​two of their last three games.

Lukas Dostal made 32 ⁤saves for the Ducks.

Carlsson tied the game‍ at 3 ‍with ‌a goal at 4:01 of⁣ the third period,‌ redirecting Terry’s shot past Vejmelka.

J.J. Moser‌ contributed two assists, and Vejmelka made 25 saves for‌ the Coyotes.

The ⁤Ducks took an early 2–0 ‍lead at 9:35 into the game after Terry’s second power-play goal.‌ Although rookie defenseman Pavel Mintyukov hit the post on ⁤a breakaway attempt,​ Terry capitalized on the rebound, scoring his⁢ fourth goal of the season.

However, the Coyotes fought back and tied the game with goals from⁢ Crouse and‌ Cooley.

Cooley scored his first NHL goal at⁤ 14:51,‌ leveling the score at 2. He received a‌ pass from Moser near the blue line, skated ⁤past Anaheim defenseman Jackson LaCombe, and ‍found the top ‍corner of the net behind Dostal.

“In⁣ the moment, ​it was the best feeling ever. It felt like ⁣I was on Cloud 9 there for a little bit, but I would’ve taken the win over‌ that any day of the week,” ‌Cooley shared ⁣about his ‍goal. “It’s good to get off my shoulders, and now I ⁢can just play and focus on tomorrow’s ⁢game.”

The Coyotes⁣ took a 3–2 lead after ⁢40 minutes when ⁤Crouse scored on a rebound at ⁤14:25 ⁤of the second period. This marked the seventh multi-goal game of Crouse’s⁤ eight-year NHL‌ career.

“I think we had​ a tough start. We battled back. We came back in the game, and we even had ​a lead, ‌I think,”⁣ Arizona coach Andrè Tourigny ⁢said. ‌”We could expect to win⁤ in that type of situation. I did not like the ⁢way we played when we were under attack, ​and⁢ we need⁤ to ⁢be comfortable being uncomfortable, and​ we were not today.”
