Trump 2024 Bid Notches Sixth U.S. Senator Endorsement
Sixth US Senator, Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), has endorsed Donald Trump for his 2024 presidential bid, which already has support from several Republicans. Hyde-Smith criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who has brought criminal charges against the former President. The Senator referred to Bragg’s political connections with a racial justice group that had received funding from liberal billionaire George Soros. She accused the prosecutor’s case against Trump of being a political stunt with no justice served. Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges that accuse him of manipulating business records to influence the 2016 election.
Hyde-Smith, who was endorsed by Trump in 2018, outlined her support for Trump in terms of his policy-making and attention to the needs of Mississippi. Several other Republican senators, including Lindsey Graham, Markwayne Mullin, Eric Schmitt, Tommy Tuberville, and J.D. Vance have expressed support for Trump as his Republican primary polls remain favorable. Even some of Trump’s former GOP critics, such as Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT), have criticized the charges against him as the prosecutor stretched the charges to fit a political agenda.
As Trump makes headway in his 2024 presidential campaign, other Republican contenders have emerged, including former South Carolina Governor and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson.
