Trump discusses the potential for an American civil war with Tucker Carlson.
Former President Donald Trump Addresses Risk of Civil Conflict
Former President Donald Trump recently discussed the possibility of the United States descending into open civil conflict during a highly anticipated interview with renowned TV host Tucker Carlson. In response to rising discontent with American politics, Trump expressed uncertainty about whether such a dangerous escalation could occur.
The interview, which aired simultaneously with Fox News’ GOP 2024 presidential candidate debate on August 23, showcased Trump’s cautious approach when questioned about the potential for civil war. This topic has increasingly entered public discourse in recent years.
“There’s tremendous passion and there’s tremendous love,” President Trump responded to Carlson’s inquiry about the nation’s trajectory towards civil war.

Trump then shifted the conversation to the January 6 Capitol breach.
“I believe it was the largest crowd I’ve ever spoken before,” he continued, referring to his “Stop the Steal” rally held on the same day. The rally aimed to protest the certification of electoral votes amidst ongoing disputes regarding election fraud.
While acknowledging that some individuals resorted to violence, Trump emphasized that they represented a minority among the hundreds of thousands present for his speech. In a video that was removed by social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, he had urged everyone to act “peacefully and patriotically.”
“People that were in that crowd that day, a very small group of people, went down there, and then there are a lot of scenarios that we could talk about,” Trump explained.
According to Trump, the majority of attendees demonstrated a sense of “love and unity.”
“I have never seen such spirit and such passion and such love, and I’ve also never seen simultaneously and from the same people such hatred for what they’ve done to our country,” President Trump expressed.
Opponents of Trump frequently employ the term “insurrection” to describe the events of January 6, 2021. This label has been adopted by Democrats, Trump critics, and various media personalities. On that day, a crowd of protestors breached the U.S. Capitol, resulting in minor damages. It is important to note that four individuals, all supporters of President Trump, lost their lives during the events.
In the aftermath of the Capitol breach, many of Trump’s political adversaries claimed it was part of a coordinated conspiracy to overthrow the U.S. government. This narrative was ultimately promoted by the now-defunct House Jan. 6 Committee.
The protests and breach marked an escalation in political tensions uncommon in the United States, a nation known for its political stability. Some, including 2024 candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, have suggested that the Capitol breach could be the catalyst for a potential civil conflict.
During an earlier conversation with Carlson at the Family Leadership Summit in Des Moines, Iowa, Ramaswamy expressed his belief that January 6 was a symptom of widespread censorship of free speech in America. He warned that unless this issue is addressed and truth is restored, the events of January 6 may only be the beginning of a more significant crisis.
