During his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Trump expressed enthusiasm for the visit and mentioned tech billionaire Elon Musk might accompany him. He humorously suggested they could livestream the event,raising the question of weather any gold would remain in the vault. Despite assurances from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that all gold is accounted for, he remained open to facilitating the visit for Trump and Musk, highlighting that Fort knox has been closed to the public since 1974.

President Donald Trump was firm on his commitment to go to Fort Knox to check on the United States’s gold reserves after he backed the idea earlier this week.
In his remarks at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday afternoon, Trump addressed a potential visit to the vault, which was boosted by tech billionaire Elon Musk this week.
“We’re also going to Fort Knox. I’m going to go with Elon. And would anybody like to join us? Because we want to see if the gold is still there,” Trump said.
He added, “Wouldn’t that be terrible if we opened it up into this and there was no gold there? So we’re going to open those doors.”
The comments follow Trump and Musk’s earlier musings about going into the vault, with Musk floating the idea of a livestream of the visit.
Their interest in checking on the gold reserves comes in spite of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s assurances that all the gold is accounted for.
“We do an audit every year. All the gold is present and accounted for,” Bessent said in an interview this week.
Nonetheless, Bessent said he is open to arranging a visit to Fort Knox for Trump and Musk.
The vaults of the Fort Knox Bullion Depository have been closed to the public since 1974.
