Trump and DeSantis to host rival events in Iowa on same day.
Get Ready for the Battle of Iowa: Trump vs. DeSantis
The 2024 Iowa GOP caucus is heating up as two potential frontrunners gear up for a showdown in the Hawkeye State. Former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are set to hold competing events on May 13th, and the excitement is palpable.
Trump will be hosting a “Make America Great Again” rally at the Lauridsen Amphitheater in Des Moines, the state’s capital. In a recent Truth Social post, he declared, “I did more for Iowa than anyone else in history—and will again!” The event kicks off at 2 p.m., with Trump scheduled to speak at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, DeSantis will be appearing at Rep. Randy Feenstra’s Iowa Family Picnic in Sioux Center, in the state’s northwest corner. He’ll also be speaking at an evening fundraiser for the Republican Party of Iowa in Cedar Rapids, almost three hundred miles east of Sioux Center.
Both candidates are expected to draw large crowds, and the stakes are high. Trump declared his candidacy in November 2022, while DeSantis is expected to announce his bid in the coming days or weeks. He’s been touring early caucus and primary states, including Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, and has even traveled internationally to Israel and Japan.
The battle for Iowa is just the beginning, as the Democratic Party has revised its caucus and primary schedule for 2024, making South Carolina its first-in-the-nation contest. But for now, all eyes are on Iowa, where Trump and DeSantis will be talking past each other from across the state. Who will come out on top? Only time will tell.
