Trump Attorney Says Former President Facing ‘Trumped Up’ Charges Ahead of April 4 Arraignment
Former President Donald Trump is facing “trumped up” charges with “absolutely no legal basis,” claims his defense attorney Jesse Binnall in an interview with The Epoch Times’ sister outlet, NTD. The official charges against Trump remain unknown, even to the former president himself, as the indictment has not been unsealed yet. Binnall suggests that the case is related to a payment that was made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels by Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, referred to as a “falsification of business records.” Cohen, who has pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations and tax evasion in 2018, is a “proven liar,” says Binnall, which highlights a substantial problem with the case.
Binnall believes that the case will fail, as there are no victims being stolen from, which is required for fraud according to the Supreme Court. Furthermore, he claims that the case is purely politically motivated and is a “big problem” for Bragg. The Manhattan district attorney’s office is under heavy criticism from both Republicans and Democrats, with many asserting that the charges are baseless and meritless.
This will be the first ever indictment for a former U.S. president, and the Manhattan district attorney’s office is being accused of prosecutorial abuse by Harvard Law School Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz. The office has countered these accusations as baseless and meritless.
