Trump campaigns vigorously in Iowa, where GOP rivals aim to overthrow him in upcoming caucuses.
Former President Donald Trump Energizes Supporters in Iowa Ahead of 2024 Presidential Campaign
Former President Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign made a powerful stop in Maquoketa, Iowa on Wednesday, aiming to rally support before the state’s influential caucuses next year. The Iowa caucuses, scheduled for Jan. 15, hold immense significance as the first nominating contests of the GOP primary schedule. Winning these caucuses is crucial for Trump to secure the Republican presidential nomination and effectively end the primary race.
While Trump lost the caucuses to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) during the 2016 GOP primary race, he ultimately secured the nomination. However, this time around, Trump faces fierce competition from Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and others who hope to establish themselves as viable alternatives capable of defeating President Joe Biden in the upcoming elections. Trump’s strategic visits to Iowa in the coming weeks could potentially thwart his rivals’ attempts to stage an upset in January.
“We’re Going to Win the Iowa Caucuses in a Historic Landslide”
“We want to get through the caucus. We want to get through it right away, and we want to win it by numbers bigger than we won it even the last time, if that’s possible,” Trump confidently declared to an enthusiastic crowd of Iowa supporters. “In less than four months from now, we’re going to win the Iowa caucuses in a historic landslide. I think it’s going to be a landslide. You see what’s going on with the polling. We’ve been like a rocket ship.”
“And the polls have been incredible,” he continued. “We’re up 60 points — 60. Think of it: who the hell ever thought that was gonna happen so quickly?”
Trump’s reference to a Wall Street Journal poll released in September, showing him with 59% support among GOP primary voters, highlights his overwhelming popularity among the party’s base. Other polls also confirm his strong position as the frontrunner.
An Emerson College poll released this month reveals that Trump still leads the GOP field in Iowa with 49% support, compared to DeSantis’s 14%. Although Trump’s support has slightly decreased since May, where he dominated the survey at 62%, he maintains a comfortable lead over his rivals in both Iowa and national polls. In fact, a RealClearPolitics poll average shows Trump leading DeSantis by double digits, 58.5%-12.5%, with no other candidate polling in the double digits.
During his passionate speech and Q&A session in Iowa, Trump repeatedly urged his supporters to caucus for him in January and emphasized the importance of registering as Republicans. He even pledged to attend the caucuses, further demonstrating his commitment to winning and potentially setting up a rematch with Biden in 2024.
Trump Takes Aim at DeSantis and Highlights His Accomplishments
Trump didn’t shy away from taking shots at Governor DeSantis during his speech, referring to him derisively as “Ron DeSanctimonious.” He criticized DeSantis over ethanol, Medicare, and Social Security policies, while labeling him a Republican in name only. Trump even compared DeSantis to former House Speaker Paul Ryan, whom he disapprovingly called “Paul RINO.”
Despite facing backlash from Republican rivals and advocacy groups over recent comments, Trump remains confident in his conservative supporters’ loyalty. He highlighted his role in nominating three conservative Supreme Court judges who played a significant part in overturning Roe v. Wade last year. Additionally, he took the opportunity to boast about the high ratings his appearances generate for networks and subtly criticized Meet the Press host Kristen Welker for interrupting him during their interview.
As Trump continues to energize his base and make strategic moves in key states like Iowa, the stage is set for an intense battle for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

To 19% for DeSantis and 7% for Cruz. Additionally, a recent Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll showed Trump with a 62% approval rating among likely Republican caucusgoers.
Trump’s speech in Maquoketa emphasized his achievements during his presidency, including tax cuts, deregulation, border security, and the appointment of conservative judges. He also touted his strong stance on China, his efforts to negotiate fair trade deals, and his commitment to putting America first.
“The Greatest Economy in the History of Our Country”
“We had the greatest economy in the history of our country before the China virus came in. And we’re building it up again, and it’s going to be even better than it was,” Trump proclaimed. “We’re going to have the greatest economy that we’ve ever had.”
He also criticized President Biden’s handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan and the ongoing border crisis, arguing that his policies have weakened America’s standing in the world.
Trump’s visit to Iowa not only energized his supporters but also served as a reminder of his influence within the Republican Party. His ability to draw huge crowds and maintain high approval ratings among conservative voters demonstrates his continued sway over GOP politics.
However, Trump faces challenges in his path to securing the nomination. He will need to navigate a crowded field of contenders and face scrutiny over his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the events leading up to the January 6th Capitol riot. Additionally, he will need to address concerns about his divisive rhetoric and the potential for further polarization within the party.
As the 2024 presidential campaign intensifies, Trump’s appearance in Iowa signals his intention to reclaim the White House. With his characteristic charisma and a loyal base of supporters, he poses a formidable challenge to other Republican hopefuls. The Iowa caucuses will serve as an early test of his popularity and set the stage for the primary race to come.
While the road to the 2024 election is still long and unpredictable, one thing remains certain – Donald Trump’s presence in Iowa has reignited enthusiasm among his supporters and further solidified his role as a leading figure in the Republican Party.
