Trump bashes Democrats’ fundraising platform ActBlue: ‘Illegal scam’ – Washington Examiner
In a recent post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump criticized the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue, labeling it an “illegal scam” that allegedly accepts foreign contributions. This statement follows his directive to Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate ActBlue for supposed misconduct, including accusations of foreign money laundering and funneling illegal contributions to Democratic candidates. Trump highlighted concerns over contributions made from foreign internet protocol addresses and claimed that Democrats excel at winning thru dishonest means. As ActBlue faces a federal investigation, it also encounters internal issues, with the resignation of several senior staff members, including its top legal officer.
Trump bashes Democrats’ fundraising platform ActBlue: ‘Illegal scam’
President Donald Trump slammed the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue on Sunday, days after he directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate it for alleged illegal contributions.
In a Truth Social post, Trump called the fundraising platform an “illegal scam” that has taken in unallowed “foreign contributions,” likely a reference to hundreds of donations made on ActBlue over a 30-day period ahead of the 2024 election that came from foreign internet protocol addresses.
“Hopefully ACTBLUE, the Democrats ILLEGAL SCAM used to raise money, including from not allowed ‘foreign contributions,’ is being looked at by authorities. The Dems only know how to win by CHEATING, something which they do better than any group or party in history,” Trump said.
ActBlue has faced accusations across the country for a wide range of wrongdoing, including foreign money laundering and contributions from terrorist groups.
Trump signed a memorandum late last week directing the Department of Justice to investigate the platform and “take appropriate action” concerning these allegations and others, including that ActBlue is used to funnel illegal “straw” or “dummy” contributions to Democratic candidates and committees.
On top of now being the subject of a federal investigation, ActBlue faced some inner turmoil early this year after at least seven senior staffers resigned, including its top legal officer. The reason for their departures is not yet known.
