Trump bashes DeSantis over payments to ‘non-entity’ Babylon Bee site

FTrump’s former President Donald Trump attacked Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-FL, was upset about payments he made for the satirical website. Babylon Bee.

Trump launched a new attack on his likely competitor in 2024. He also attacked another former ally, the Christian satirical news website, the Babylon Bee. Trump took aim at DeSantis in a Truth Social posting.

“Why is Ron DeSanctimonious paying The Babylon Bee, a non-entity, $5,000 a month, so far $21,500, if he’s not running for President?” Trump wrote using his nickname for Governor. “Just because his Poll Numbers are tanking, probably because of his desire to cut Social Security and Medicare, doesn’t allow him to campaign without an announcement! You don’t spend that much money on The Babylon Bee if you’re running for Governor, in fact, you don’t spend money on The Babylon Bee if you’re running for anything!”

Trump attached a receipt to Truth Social, but it did not show when DeSantis contributed to the site. All payments to DeSantis were made in the period between August 2021 & March 2022. This was before the governor was contemplating a presidential run.

An April 2022 Miami Herald DeSantis was found to have made payments to the website, according to an investigation. “services related to online fundraising, according to state campaign finance records.”

“The governor’s campaign committee, as well as the associated Friends of Ron DeSantis political action committee, paid the conservative-leaning satire website The Babylon Bee a combined $15,000 last year for services related to online fundraising, according to state campaign finance records,” The outlet stated.

Trump’s fall out with the Babylon Bee He hosted Seth Dillon, the owner of the outlet, to dinner at Mar-a-Lago in January, which was much more recent than his encounter with DeSantis.

The Babylon Bee Many articles were written that praised Trump during his presidency. But, he began to be criticized in 2022 as a result of DeSantis’s popularity rise in conservative circles.

While Trump may occasionally be criticized, the articles that followed his presidency were mostly positive. The article shortly after the Jan. 6 riot, which was titled “Defending Trump’s Conduct”, was published soon afterwards. “‘Let’s All Remain Peaceful,’ Says Trump In Clear Incitement To Violence.” Indirectly, others defended his presidency.

The website’s tone was decidedly anti-Trump during the midterm elections. Articles blaming Trump for the poor performance of the Republican Party in 2022 were published.
