Trump bristles over flags flying at half-staff for Jimmy Carter during inauguration

President Joe Biden won’t rescind his flag directive honoring the late President Jimmy Carter despite criticism raised by President-elect Donald Trump on Friday.

Biden quickly ordered flags on federal properties to be lowered to half-staff for 30 days after Carter died on Dec. 29 in accordance with standards set during the Eisenhower administration. That 30-day window would mean that federal flags would fly at half-staff during Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20.

HERE’S WHICH BIDEN EXECUTIVE ORDERS WILL BE THE FIRST TO GO UNDER TRUMP

Trump interpreted the order as a dig at his election to a second term, saying on Truth Social that “the Democrats are all ‘giddy’ about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at ‘half mast’ during my Inauguration.”

“They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves,” he wrote. “Look at what they’ve done to our once GREAT America over the past four years — It’s a total mess!”

“In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast,” Trump continued. “Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about Trump’s criticism during Friday’s briefing and if Biden would consider rescinding his directive.

Jean-Pierre responded with a simple “No.”
