Trump calls for MSNBC’s Maddow and Wallace to ‘resign’ over comments on cancer survivor

President Donald Trump condemned comments made by a pair of MSNBC hosts against a pediatric cancer survivor and suggested both hosts have lost “all credibility.”

D.J. Daniel, a 13-year-old cancer survivor, became an honorary Secret Service member during Trump’s address to Congress on Tuesday night. The president noted how Daniel has “always dreamed of becoming a police officer.” However, the moment did not sit well with MSNBC host Nicole Wallace, who said she hopes Daniel never has to “defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump supporters,” a reference to the Jan. 6 Capitol protests.

Fellow MSNBC host Rachel Maddow also disparaged Trump for honoring Daniel and called it “disgusting” how the president made “a spectacle” out of the cancer survivor.

“Frankly, what Nicole Wallace said, I’ve never been a fan of hers, and she’s not very talented, but I’ll tell you, what she said the other day about that young man is disgraceful,” Trump said. “She should be forced to resign, and Rachel Maddow should be forced to resign. Nobody watches her anyway. I don’t know, it’s not possible they pay her as much money as I hear, but certainly, she’s lost all credibility. Both of them.”

The White House’s Rapid Response account on X posted the footage of Trump’s comments, with the account calling both Maddow and Wallace “Fake News losers.”

TRUMP SAYS DEMOCRATS SHOULD LOSE MIDTERM ELECTIONS BASED ON BEHAVIOR AT JOINT ADDRESS

Trump’s comments about Maddow’s show’s lack of an audience came as the network is undergoing restructuring. Its parent company, Comcast, said in November that the network and other NBCUniversal cable channels would be spun off. Among the latest MSNBC shake-ups is Joy Reid’s TheReidOut show getting axed, with the host airing her final episode last week.

The president took a victory lap over the cancellation of Reid’s show, saying, “She should have been ‘canned’ long ago, along with everyone else who works there.”
