President Donald Trump was heavily critical of Rep. Al Green (D-TX), who interrupted his joint sessions address to Congress on Tuesday night. The president’s comments came on the same day the House of Representatives voted to censure Green for his antics.
Of Green, Trump said that the Texas congressman “should be forced to pass an IQ test because he is a low IQ individual, and we don’t need low IQ individuals in Congress.” Trump also said Green was an embarrassment and called for punitive action against him.
“He should be censured,” the president told Fox News Digital. “Nobody takes him seriously. He is an embarrassment to Congress but a much bigger embarrassment to the Democrats.”
Green caused a ruckus during Trump’s speech on Tuesday night when he started yelling shortly after the president began talking.
“You have no mandate,” Green yelled. Republicans subsequently booed the congressman and began chanting, “U-S-A!” to muffle his outburst.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) called for order in the House, but Green kept shouting. After Green persisted and ignored the speaker’s request, Johnson asked the sergeant-at-arms to remove him from the floor.
